1 We meet tonight under the shadow of a great loss in the passing of our beloved secretary, John Doe. Though the certainty of death and the uncertainty of life is ever with us, each visit of the Grim Reaper brings new sorrow and humbles us in our mad struggle for glory and fulfillment of ambition. Once again, necessarily, we should pause to reflect and consider the life and the work of our friend, and from his achievemnets seek to gain inspiration and courage to meet the trials and the tribulations of ordinary mortal existence. As a leader of the community, and a man, he built a temple of honor and of virture, of industry and of unselfish devotion to duty. To the members of the bereaved family we extend our profound condolences, drawing consolation in the fullness of his life's services to his fellowmen.
2 The sudden passing of John Doe was a geat shock to those who knew him. He was fair, sumpathetic, and always sought to do his duty honorably and justly. I can only add to what has already been said, that his loss is one which it will be diffictlt to overcome.
